As a part of Drug awareness drive Department of Criminology in association with Mangaluru City Police organised session on Prevention on Drug Abuse in Paduva,PU College Mangaluru on 24th July 2023.

Ms. Nikitha of III BA criminology in her session she discussed psychological, behavioural, and physical warning flags during her presentation, such as eyes that are bloodshot, have unusually large or small pupils, alterations in appetite or sleeping habits, Unexpected weight increase or loss decline in personal grooming practices, attractiveness, unusual odours on the body, clothing, or breath, decreased coordination, slurred speech, or tremors, Drop in attendance and performance at work or school, Unexplained financial problems; borrowing or stealing, Engaging in secretive or suspicious behaviours, Sudden change in friends, favourite hangouts, and hobbies, Frequently getting into trouble (fights, accidents, illegal activities), Unexplained change in personality or attitude, Sudden mood swings, irritability, or angry outbursts, Periods of unusual hyperactivity, agitation, or giddiness, Lack of motivation; appears lethargic or “spaced out”, Appears fearful, anxious, or paranoid

 

 

 

 

At the conclusion of the session, she said: "How can we stop drug abuse?" If your friend or member of your family has a drug problem without passing judgment, express your worries to the person and give your assistance and support. It is best to cure addiction as soon as possible. Stop waiting for your loved one to fail.

She also advised to ensure own wellbeing. Be careful. Avoid putting oneself in perilous circumstances. Don’t get so caught up in someone else’s drug problem that you neglect your own needs. Make sure you have people you can talk to and lean on for support. You can support a person with a substance abuse problem and encourage treatment, but you can’t force an addict to change. You can’t control your loved one’s decisions. Letting the person accept responsibility for their actions is an essential step along the way to recovery. Eliminate self-blame. You can assist
