Ms.Malavika Prakash of II BA Criminology completed an internship from 9th December 2024 to 23rd December 2024
During her internship, Malavika Prakash was assigned to four key departments: the District Crime Record Bureau (DCRB), District Scientific Laboratory (DSL), Fingerprint Expert, and Photographic Bureau. Each department provided her with unique insights into the intricacies of crime investigation and evidence management.
In the DCRB, she gained an understanding of case management, including drafting First Information Reports (FIRs), and explored the transition from IPC to BNS for crime recording. She also learned about various types of crimes and was introduced to departmental websites used for categorizing crimes such as road accidents and cybercrimes, which provide statistical data for improved analysis.
In the DSL, she was trained on handling and packaging different types of evidence and learned about common evidence and injuries encountered at crime scenes. This exposure deepened her understanding of the role evidence plays in investigations. Similarly, in the Fingerprint Expert department, she learned techniques for collecting fingerprints and footprints and had the opportunity to examine case samples, which enhanced her knowledge of fingerprint analysis in solving crimes.
Finally, in the Photographic Bureau, she learned about the importance of photography in crime scene documentation. By reviewing various crime scene photographs, she understood how images are utilized in investigations and their value in aiding future cases.
This internship was a valuable experience for Malavika, as it expanded her knowledge of crime investigation, evidence handling, and the application of technology in law enforcement. It provided her with practical exposure and strengthened her understanding of the critical role each department plays in solving crimes.
