On 27th January 2025, the LEO Club, in collaboration with the Criminology Undergraduate Department, organized a guest talk on "Skin Health Awareness". The session was conducted under the guidance of Ms. Sarik Ankitha, Head of the Department and Assistant Professor of Criminology, and was attended by approximately 60 students from the MSW Counselling program, M.Sc. Criminology and Forensic Science, and BA Criminology.
The resource person for the session was Dr. Malcolm Pinto, a distinguished Dermatologist at Yenapoya Specialty Hospital, Kodialbail, and Professor of Dermatology at Yenapoya Medical College, Deralakatte. Dr. Pinto, shared his knowledge and expertise on various aspects of skin health.
Dr. Pinto began by emphasizing the importance of recognizing qualified and certified skincare specialists to avoid the risks associated with unprofessional treatments. He elaborated on the types of skin and highlighted the significance of tailoring skincare routines to individual needs.
The talk included valuable insights into the do's and don'ts of skin routines and covered common skin issues such as: White patches, Acanthosis Nigricans, Pimples and acnes, and Hand and foot eczema.
Dr. Pinto also discussed the influence of social media on skin health, particularly the potential harm caused by unrealistic beauty standards and the use of unverified products. He cautioned students about the adverse effects of using the wrong treatments, stressing the importance of consulting professionals for skin-related concerns.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students actively participated and sought solutions to their queries regarding skin care.
The talk was well-received by the attendees, who appreciated the practical advice and deeper understanding of skin health. The event successfully achieved its goal of spreading awareness about skin health and promoting informed decisions regarding skincare practices.
