1. 1. Seminar on Gender Sensitization:A talk on “The Needs of Bringing in the Transgenders into the Mainstream of Society” by Ms. Akai Padmashali was organized on the 3oth of June 2014. The post-graduate students and the undergraduatestudents (40 participants) of School of Social Work,RoshniNilaya,participated.A couple of video sessions depicting the case study of a Transgender and Lesbians weretook place,followedby a discussion and feedback session. Social Activists like MsVidyaDinakaran and MsHarrietVidyasagar attended the session.
2. The Department of English, on the 1st of July 2014, organized a session with Ms Akai Padmashali for the First Year BA Students (20 participants). This session was in continuation of the session held on the 30th of June 2014 and the students were made aware of some of the psychological and social issues and conflicts that torment the transgenders and how they could help overcome the social barriers that keep the transgenders from leading a normal life.
“Career Conversations” a seminar organized by the Department of English on the 9th of July 2014 at Maria PaivaCouceiroHall. DrSumithChowdhury, the Author of “Rules of the Game”, was the chief speaker. He shared his experiences in the corporate world and said that the rules of a career must be learnt and then at times modified or broken if one had to make a niche for himself/herself in the career-orientedworld.
3.LOGO Designing: On the 18th of July 2014, a Logo-Designing Competition was organized by the LitMeet Forum for the BA and BSW students of School of Social Work, RoshniNilaya. There were 20 participantsin this competition, The following students were declared as the winners:

4.Western Dance Competition: The LitMeet Forum organized a Western Dance Competition on the 23rd of July 2014 for the BA and BSW students of School of Social Work, RoshniNilayaThere were 10 participants and the following students won in the solo and group categories:

1st Place – VineethRai – III B.A. 2nd Place – Sinchana – II B.A. 3rd Place- Shruthi – III B.A.
Group Dance:
1st Place – Kirthi and Group 2nd Place – Raviraj and Prakash 3rd Place –Paige and Group
5. Photography Competition: ‘Friends with Monsoon’ was the theme for the photography competition held for the BA and BSW students of School of Social Work, RoshniNilaya. 60 participants sent in their entries.
The following students were declared as the winners of this competition:

3rd Place – Naushad – III B.A., Anupama – II nd B.A., Spoorthi- III B.A.
6. Wikipedia Workshop 1: A one day Workshop on Wikipedia was organized by the Department of English, on the 21st of July 2014. MsHarriet Vidyasagar, the Resource Person and Founder of Women of India.Org, delivered a talk on how Wikipedia could be accessed and used for literary purposes by the student community. A technical workshop was also set up after the talk where students were put in groups and taught to enhance their writing, research and editing skills.
7.Wikipedia Workshop 2 :Another session on Wikipedia was held on the 23rd of July 2014, specifically for the first year BA students. MsHarriet Vidyasagar conducted the Workshop in collaboration with the Department of English, followed by a technical workshop held in the Language Lab on the same day. Students were taught the methods through which they could learn how to edit and update information on Wikipedia and contribute to literature.
8. Literary Quiz: A Literary Quiz competition was held by the LitMeet Forum for II year BSW students on the 30th of July 2014 at the Seminar Hall. Ms. Jeshta, co-ordinated the Quiz which involved three rounds. It was meant to test the ability of students to comprehend, decipher words and abbreviations. Spelling Bee, Unjumbling words and Abbreviations were some of the contests held. Astel and Group were the winners of this Quiz Competition.
9.Guru Vandana: To honour and felicitate MsFrancis Colaco and all the Professors of English who had served at the Institution since its inception in 1970, the Department of English on the 30th of August organized a felicitation programmeentitled Guru Vandana – Bridge from the Past. 25 lecturers were felicitated by the students who penned in scrolled citations and gifted it to their respective lecturers who had taught them.
10. Exchange Programme: An MOU has been signed for academic collaboration between the Departments of English of the following 9 colleges affiliated under Mangalore University: School of Social Work,RoshniNilaya,SDM, Vivekanada College, Besant Women’s College, KSS College Subramanya, St Agnes College, Kamala Nehru College, SVS College Bantwal, Vidyarashmi College, First Grade College,Madyanthyar. The first part of this MOU was an exchange programme with the students of St Agnes College held on 30th August 2014. There was a paper presentation by the III Year BA students on the topic Modern Age. There were 40 participants in the program
