As part of the academic curriculum, an exposure visit was arranged by the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru for eight students of Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice specialization accompanied Asst. Prof. Gayathri K. S on Friday, 31st January 2025 at 10.00 AM to Riya Foundation, Kulshekar. The objective of the visit was to gain the practical insights into the services and support provided for individuals with special needs.

Riya Foundation was established in the year 2010 and currently accommodates 37 residents, ranging in age from 5 years to 61 years. The facility is managed by 15 faculty members and operates with a homely setup, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment for its residents. The foundation focuses on occupational therapy, exercises, and yoga classes, tailored to the severity and specific needs of each client. During the visit, the students were given an overview of the foundation’s structure and daily activities. The staff explained the methodologies used in therapy sessions and the importance of individualized care. The team also observed the impact of occupational therapy and yoga in enhancing the well-being of the residents. The team conducted several games along with singing and dancing. The exposure visit to Riya Foundation was meaningful and fruitful. The students gained valuable insights into the therapeutic interventions used for individuals with special needs and the role of holistic care in their development. This experience deepened their understanding of the practical applications of forensic psychology and counselling in real-world settings.
