The Postgraduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Tobacco/Substance Abuse Control Committee and Centre for Extension Services in association with Kripa Foundation, Mangaluru, and the Mangaluru North Police Station, Bunder, organized an impactful street play titled VIMUKTHI – Drug-Free Lives, Healthy Minds on 26th October, 2024. This anti-drug awareness initiative took place at three prominent locations: Market Road, Lighthouse Road, and City Centre Mall, aiming to foster community awareness on the importance of drug-free living and mental wellness.

The program began at 9:30 am with an energetic flash mob performed by first-year MSW students, which drew the attention of the public and set a lively tone for the event. This was followed by a compelling skit by second-year MSc Criminology and Forensic Science students, offering critical insights into the societal impact of drug abuse and the importance of awareness. Ms. Nagashree D V, first-year MSW student further reinforced these messages through a powerful speech, highlighting both the anti-drug message and the vital work of Kripa Foundation.

The event concluded at 12:30 pm with closing remarks from the Inspector of Bunder, who appreciated the collaborative efforts of all participants. Police officials gave positive feedback, expressing appreciation for the event’s impact and an eagerness to pursue similar partnerships in the future.

Overall, the program witnessed the active involvement of 38 students and faculties (29 students, two faculty members, and seven representatives from the police and Kripa Foundation), underscoring the commitment to a shared vision. Around 800 people have witnessed the event in the city. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Saritha D’Souza, IQAC Coordinator and Head of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science(CFS), with support from Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant Professor and Extension Service Officer of the PG Department of CFS, as well as Mr. James David Amor, Manager, and Ms. Prathiba K, Counselor from Kripa Foundation.
