Deciding on a career can be quite confusing but with a little guidance, it can be made simpler. With this in mind, the Psychology Department, School Of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, in collaboration with Planet Education India organized an interactive session on ‘Career Opportunities Abroad’ on Saturday, 7th May 2022 at 9:45 a.m in the college auditorium for the II and III BA students of Psychology. The resource persons were Mr. Imran S M, Marketing Head of Planet Education India (South Region) and Ms. Hannah Awayz, child psychologist from HDFC School, Bengaluru.
Mr. Imran S M briefed the gathering about Planet Education that provides career guidance as well as expert coaching for over two decades and has successfully recruited over 35,000 students to top universities across the globe, mainly to Australia, the United Kingdom, USA, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore. They have made themselves easily accessible with 22 offices in India and 25 offices globally. They aim to help students achieve their dream and provide guidance at every step from choosing a course to assisting with financial and visa requirements.
He gave us insights into the international education system and discussed the best universities for psychology abroad, the admission processes and entry criteria for different countries along with the scholarships available, cost of living and job prospects. He updated us on the latest post-study work rights and emphasized the need for having a part-time job while pursuing a degree abroad.
The students were then addressed by Ms Hannah Awayz, school counselor at HDFC School, Bengaluru via zoom. She shared her work experience having used Cognitive Behavior Therapy and mindful exercises while working with children and adolescents and expanded on the traits of mental health professional. She urged the students to make a mental check list as she went through some of the traits like social skills, ability to manage emotions, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, curiosity, sensitivity, interest in different topics within the field and a passion for mental health. She advised us to step out of our comfort zones and develop soft skills, be ready to create our path and structure, be willing to experiment and be ready to bring about a personal change.
She further discussed the job prospects in India and abroad and mentioned the growing psychology courses which are sports psychology, child psychology, research and training and organizational psychology. She mentioned the examinations that are required for studying abroad, the importance of networking and completing various certificate courses. She recommended Planet Education for guidance with studies abroad as they are well structured and streamlined.
Then followed the Question-Answer session where the resource persons cleared queries of the students. The students of Psychology - II BA (52) and III BA (62) benefitted from this hybrid interactive session.
