PSY Forum Events

10th of September is observed as World Suicide Prevention Day. To commemorate this day a collaborative program was organized by "Your Ikikai" a Mental Health Service Platform in association with Psy Forum and Criminovision, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya,  Mangaluru on 10^th of September, 2022 at 10am in the College Auditorium. 38 II BA students and 72 III BA students attended this program.

The session began with an interaction facilitated by Ms Haneen Khader, Founder of “Your Ikikai” and an Alumna of the college. She gave an insight on the significance of the World Suicide Prevention Day. The students  were asked to maintain eye contact with the person sitting next to them for as long as they could so as to identify non-verbal gestures that show depressive states.

Postcards were passed to the audience to write a message creating hope and put them all in a bowl. Ms. Haneen also spoke about her personal encounter with depression. Another activity was conducted in which everyone was asked to send a message to any one person that they love the most reminding them that they are there for them. Some breathing exercises were done alongside a motivational song was being played. She also spoke about how physical presence could also make a difference by just being there. She spoke about her journey with mental health and healing as a Roshnite.

The second speaker of the day was Mr. Saif Sultan a motivational coach. He began by narrating a story which conveyed the message of having faith in ourselves. He demonstrated an activity that showed how important it is to grab an opportunity in life. Everyone took a pledge reminding themselves that they are amazing, beautiful and strong.

This was followed by some singing led by Jason Lobo and team. Everyone joined as they sang “Scars to your Beautiful” and “Zindagi ek Safar hai Suhana”. Mohammad Jassim (III BA) delivered the vote of thanks. The program ended at 12:20pm.

Dr. Sandra Sunita Lobo, Head of the Department of Psychology and Ms. Roshini Monica Goveas,  Assistant Professor in Psychology, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru were also present.
