The Students of Social Work Roshni Nilaya of BSW Department organized a session on use of tobacco and its harmful effect on health, for the class VII VIII and IX of Kerala Samajam English Medium High School Pandeswar on 13 December 2019. The target group was 85 Students and five teachers. The session was conducted by a II BSW student Anima Ming who had attended the workshop programme on the topic earlier.
She delivered the session through power presentation. It was an interactive session with the students. The students were aware of what is tobacco because many family members of students are victim of tobacco use. The students were aware that those who use tobacco are suffering from different diseases but they did not know that those who are not using also can be affected badly. After the session they realized that even they are also at risk as much as the tobacco users or smokers. The students also realized the contain of harmful chemicals. They pledge that they will say no to tobacco in any form smoking or chewing. They also said that they will tell their parents who are victim to stop and on the way or in public places if they see anyone they will tell them that it is injurious to health.
The students were very active . They participated well. At the end of the session few students explained what they understood. The teachers and the Headmistress appreciated the initiative taken by the students to conduct the awareness programme on the relevant and most needed issue.
