A webinar on “Challenges Faced by the Tribal and Role of Education” was organized by final and Second year BSW Field Work students of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru on June 19, 2021. The webinar was held in virtual mode. The resource person for the webinar was Father Antony SJ, Director of Child line and Bagaicha Social Action Centre Namkum Ranchi.
Ms Anima Ming, Final year BSW student, introduced the resource person to the participants. The Resource person started the session by giving a brief history of the Tribal in Bihar and Jharkhand. He shared the ground experience with the tribals and explained that the education is not only to get good employment but to develop their personality and skills so that the tribe can also be on par with the other category groups in the society- economically, socially, educationally and politically. The main purpose of this webinar was to make the students aware of the challenges faced by the Tribals and how education can be a weapon to get their rights and also can become self sufficient. He spoke about the alternatives like once they finish their SSLC, students can opt for short term courses especially in the field of agriculture as they have their own land. Students can start their own small enterprise, and continue their education. He highlighted some of the schemes of the Government like Skill development programme “Kaushalya Bharat” and NGO initiative programmes. Through a question and answer session the participants were actively involved and the webinar ended with Vote of thanks given by Mr. Deepak Kerketta, A tribal student.
