Thirty BSW students participated in Planting saplings near Padil, Mangaluru on 5th August 2021 for the creation of Miyawaki Forest. Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki developed this technique in the 1980s, compressing forest layers — shrubs, trees, and canopies — into small parcels of ground, transforming them into miniature forests. Two to four trees per square metre are planted using this approach. It takes two to three years for Miyawaki forests to grow and become self-sustaining.
