SAHAYOG Forum-BSW Department and IQAC of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore organized a Workshop on Environmental Sustainability: Seed paper pen making on August 1, 2024 for 44 BSW Students (15 First year and 29 Second Year) in the Seminar Hall at 1:30pm.
The workshop began with a heartfelt prayer song led by Sr. Kishori, II BSW student setting a serene and reflective tone for the workshop. Ms. Brinelle Fernandes gave a warm welcome and introduction to Mr. Jayaprakash Yekkur, a remarkable Eco-warrior and Entrepreneur.
The primary objective of the workshop was to promote environmental awareness and sustainability among students through hands-on experience in making seed paper pens. Mr. Jayaprakash, an extraordinary individual who has dedicated his time and resources to fostering creativity and sustainability among students. At 47 years old, Mr. Jayaprakash has not only successfully managed his business but has also become an inspiring mentor, teaching students how to create their own paper seed pens. His initiative goes beyond just a simple craft; it embodies the principles of environmental stewardship and innovation. Through this training, he instills students a sense of responsibility towards our planet and encourages them to think creatively about their contributions to a sustainable future.
During the workshop, students were divided into groups and guided in the process of making seed paper pens. This hands-on experience not only fostered teamwork but also provided practical skills. Mr. Jayaprakash is also a passionate advocate for various social causes, leading awareness campaigns on healthy food consumption, environmental protection, and the fight against corruption and alcoholism. To add an engaging element to the session, a short quiz featuring tricky riddles and brain exercises was conducted, enhancing students' critical thinking skills.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sr. Divya Jyothi, II BSW student. The event was meticulously organized under the leadership of Asst. Prof. Veena B K, Head of the BSW Department, with support from Asst. Prof. Anusuya Kamath, Asst. Prof. Colin D'Souza, and Asst. Prof. Deepika Sanil. Overall, the workshop with Mr. Jayaprakash Yekkur was a highly successful and impactful event. Students gained practical skills in making seed paper pens, which emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship. The session effectively enhanced environmental awareness and inspired participants to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
