Sociology Economics forum in association with IQAC and Womens cell celebrated women's day on 8 March 2023 with a talk on Nutritional Needs of Women Through the years. The resource person for the session was Mrs. Freeda Almeda, certified health and wellness coach. The programme began with Mr. Jason Lobo of the final year invoking the blessing of god. Dr. Kiran Prasad B, coordinator of the Sociology Economics forum welcomed and introduced the resource person to the students. The session began with the resource person asking the students about the reason for celebrating women's day. She said that because women go through different challenges and changes in their lifetime, the life of women needs to be celebrated. Then she went on to explain to the students the difference between food and nutrition. She said that women as they grow old and age in life their nutritional needs undergo change. After this she explained the nutritional needs during adolescence and the problem of anemia during women growing up and also during pregnancy. She explained how women, because of changes in their lifestyle, suffer from PCOD and PCOS and they can end up with health problems like insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart related problems and infertility. She then gave awareness about the importance of lifestyle modification in a positive way to achieve good health among women. While speaking on this issue she spoke about the importance of understanding menstruation and issues related to Dysmenorrhea. She told the students not to neglect issues related to menstruation and take the help of a practitioner if they have any problems and doubts. She also spoke about what care women need to take during pregnancy, the problem of obesity during pregnancy and the importance of breastfeeding the child. In the last part of the session she spoke about the changes women go through during perimenopause and menopause and the associated health issues. She spoke about the importance of nutritional care women should take as they grow older. the session concluded with IQAC coordinator and Associate Professor, department of economics Ms. Cecilia F Goveas and Sociology Economics forum coordinator giving a flower pot as a token of gratitude to the resource person Mrs. Freeda Almeda and Mr. Abhi Rego of the final year BA proposing the vote of thanks.
