Sociology Economics Forum organised a thought-provoking session centred around the theme of a more just and inclusive world for the newly enrolled BA students of the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. This enlightening event took place on Friday, August 4, 2023, commencing at 10:00 am and concluding at 12:30 pm. A total of thirty-four enthusiastic students participated, making the program a resounding success.
Gracing the occasion was Associate Professor Cecilia F Goveas, the head of the Department of Economics. In her welcoming address, she introduced the essence of the session, setting the tone for the enriching discourse that was to follow.
The facilitation of the session was managed by Samvada, a dynamic organization dedicated to advocating for the rights of the youth. The resource persons for the day were Mr. Yogesh, Ms. Manjula, and Ms. Pavithra, individuals well-versed in their fields and committed to fostering positive change.
The session itself encompassed a range of crucial topics, including gender sensitization and human rights. A significant emphasis was placed on the importance of inclusivity in cultivating a truly equitable society. Leveraging engaging methods such as group dynamics, role-playing, advertising analysis, and group discussions, the students were led on a journey of awareness.
This interactive approach allowed the participants to delve deep into the prevalent discrimination that individuals face on a daily basis. Moreover, they gained insights into their own rights and responsibilities as members of society. The session served as an eye-opener, fostering a greater understanding of the social issues that persist and empowering the students to become catalysts for positive change.
