The IQAC, Sociology Economics Forum, in collaboration with the Women's Cell and Kanara Industries Association, celebrated International Women's Day with an enlightening program at the college auditorium on March 11, 2024.
The event featured two accomplished entrepreneurs as resource persons: Ms. M Athmika Amin, Director and Associate Editor at KCCI, Joint Secretary DKATDA, and Chairperson of Young Indians Mangalore Chapter; and Mrs. Salome Lobo Pereira, Chairperson and Women Entrepreneurship Committee member, and Co-chairperson of the Mangalore chapter.
Nuha Rukiya, a final year BA student, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Jenis Mary, Vice Principal and Chairperson of the Women's Cell, delivered the inaugural address, commending the Sociology Economics Forum for organizing the event.
Ms. Amin shared her entrepreneurial journey, highlighting the challenges faced by women in business. Despite coming from a family with business experience, she emphasized that her start wasn't easy. She stressed the importance of self-belief and taking financial risks, revealing that she began her venture with a bank loan rather than family support.
Mrs. Pereira focused on the unique hurdles women entrepreneurs encounter. She particularly emphasized the challenge of balancing multiple roles – professional and personal – and the societal expectations placed on women. She underscored the importance of prioritization and delegation in managing these responsibilities.
Both speakers emphasized the crucial role of building a strong support network for success in entrepreneurship. They encouraged aspiring women entrepreneurs to seek mentors and advisors who understand their specific challenges.
The event concluded with a prize distribution for winners of a collage-making competition held on World Social Justice Day, February 20. Mr. Muhad Nabi Azad, a final year BA student, delivered the vote of thanks.
The program was attended by 40 students, providing them with valuable insights into the world of women's entrepreneurship and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
