The Departments of Psychology, Criminology, Sociology and Economics under the aegis of their respective fora organized a capacity enhancement training programme for 15 students of BA programme from 20th to 23rd September 2023.
In keeping with the vision statement of the college, personal and professional skills were harnessed in grooming students as socially responsible citizens as the objective was to be trained in street play related to drug menace.
Mr Jackson D’Cunha, a theatre diploma holder from Kalakul, Mandd Sobhann, a theatre artiste and member of the Astitva Mangalore team was the resource person. The training involved preparation of the script, rehearsal, and evaluation. The script was the brainchild of Vishitha VK (II BA). Intensive rehearsals were conducted, allowing participants to fine-tune their performances. The training programme included constructive critique and growth.
The trainees included Abhishek (I BA), Enora Hezil Gomes, Jerusha KS, Navya K, Nohan, Vaishali, Vishitha VK (II BA), Diya Vinoy, Gresshma VS, Joysten D’Souza,Nikitha L. Rajpopat, Nithinkumar Reddy CH, Sharanya MS, Shravya and Vernon Chris Pinto (III BA).
This transformative initiative by the four departments of the BA programme aimed to foster a sense of ownership and activism. After being trained, the 15 participants emerged as confident advocates, equipped with the skills to use street theatre as a potent tool, to involve themselves in community engagement in the near future with the aim to engage in several anti-drug awareness campaigns.
