On February 13, 2024, Dr. Rameela Shekhar, Director of Mahashanti Clinic in Mangalore, delivered a lecture on "Family Life Education" to final year students of Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya. The event was introduced by Diya Vinoy, a third-year BA student, and Assoc. Prof. Cecilia F Goveas, IQAC Coordinator and the Head of the Economics Department, warmly welcomed Dr. Shekhar. With 34 years of experience in psychology and holding various leadership roles at Roshni Nilaya, Dr. Shekhar emphasized the importance of maintaining positive relationships, starting with a healthy self-image. She provided insights and activities to help students understand themselves better and manage their emotions. Dr. Shekhar highlighted the impact of external influences on self-esteem and stressed the need for self-affirmation and acceptance of strengths and weaknesses. Drawing from her professional experience, she underscored the significance of critical thinking in analyzing and nurturing relationships, advocating for continuous effort and emotional connection. The session concluded with a call to seek personal growth and foster emotional bonds with others. Following Dr. Shekhar's talk, Ms. Ifra Ayesha expressed gratitude, and Associate Professor Cecilia Farida Goveas presented a token of appreciation. A total of 85 students participated in the session.
