School of Social Work-Roshni Nilaya-Mangaluru has given ample opportunities to the students to take part in various co-curricular activities, sports, also in academics. The Institution has also given a chance to the students of other colleges to participate in various contests, to unleash their hidden talents and excel. And now once again by hosting ” EXPRESSIONS 2019″ which is an extension of this tradition as the quest for talent spreading its wings and beckoning more talents from other Colleges, from Karnataka and other states from India. This Talent Fest challenged the students with the theme “Animac’- Evoke Your Inner Child”, and the idea behind the theme was to reminiscence one’s childhood days, during the 2-day Fest which was inaugurated on the 19th of September and went on till the 20th of September.
Roshni Nilaya has always insisted on the integral formation and spares no effort to produce balanced persons in the best sense of the term. In keeping with this tradition, the College wishes to help students rise to excellence. “EXPRESSIONS is one such platform that raises the Intellectual, Creative, and Cultural talents of the students to new heights. This year, with the theme “Animac- Evoke Your Inner Child” brought back memories of childhood days. Watching cartoons on TV or reading comic books, and making oneself feel that they are still in their childhood. 19 Colleges from Mangaluru, DK, Udupi, other parts of Karnataka participated in the Fest.
There are twelve spectacular events planned under this Talent Hunt, namely- Ice Breaker, Stress Interview, Quiz, Cooking without Fire, Battle of Bands, Caricature, Fashion Show, Mock Press, Treasure Hunt, Photography, Creative Writing, and Group Dance, all related to the Theme which will be held on both the days with great zeal and enthusiasm. Prior to the inauguration, the programme began with a prayer by Vivian and group, followed by the Welcome Address by Ms Sarik Ankita. Briefing of the Fest was done by Ms. Aysha Meyza. In his inaugural address, Mr Vivek Alva said, “I am overwhelmed to be here as a Chief Guest, also that I am a great follower of Roshni Nilaya. He stated that many of the students who have completed their education are now serving at Alva’s Institutions in various capapcities. He said that through this Fest the hidden child in each one of us would be able to cherish their bygone childhood days.
“You need to unleash the power that is hidden within you. Don’t think of getting older or feel older, think of remaining young and active. This event is aimed at identifying your inner child. When we have a ‘young lady of 94 years here on stage, Dr Olinda Pereira, who is still bubbling with enthusiasm and activeness, don’t you think we should also follow in her footsteps? She is still active as a child? We need to emerge forward and not backward. Also more than theory, we need to engage ourselves in practicals, because these days when companies hire they look for co-curricular credits/practicals more than your academic marks. When there is so much goodness and energy at Roshni Nilaya, make sure you grab all the opportunities when they are available. So Be Creative, Be Initiative, Be your own and don’t follow others, and make your dreams come true” added Mr Vivek Alva.
The Principal of the College Ms Juliet C J congratulating the conveners and energetic students said that there was magic in the campus and Expressions was an event to feel the magic, and it was a platform to blossom and bloom and discover one’s talent. She also urged the students to set new challenges, help one another, to remain united and eliminate all evils and build a strong country. The Chief Guest and all the dignitaries on the dais also unveiled the trophies, which was done in a unique style. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms Swathi, and the programme was compered by Ms Nashma Khatija, the Academic Secretary of Roshni Nilaya.
