School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports as well as Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangaluru observed the Constitution Day on November 26th 2021 at Maria Paiva Hall. Shri. Hariram Shankar, IPS and DCP (law and Order), Mangaluru City Police was the chief guest and inaugurator of the program. Shri. Srinivasan Nandagopal, Editor in Chief, The Law Reporters, was the resource person for the session.

The program began by invoking the presence of the almighty with a prayer song which was sung by Ms. Thea Mathias and Ms. Deicia, the students of III B.A. An introduction to the programme was given by Shri. Raghuveer Souterpete, UNV- District Youth Officer, Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangalore, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. Shri. Raghuveer Souterpete gave a brief introduction of the programme and spoke about his organization, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangalore.

The dignitaries lit the lamp which was followed by a floral tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Dr. Jenis Mary, Vice Principal, School of Social Work, Mangalore welcomed the gathering.

Ms. Delilah Goveas of III BA introduced the chief guest and the inaugurator, Shri. Hariram Shankar. He has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Kundapur sub division and is currently working as the DCP Law and Order of Mangaluru division.

Mr. Shankar in his address to the students explained the Indian Constitution in a nutshell by quoting interesting examples from day to day life. He touched upon various aspects of the constitution and elaborated on the fundamental right to life and the fundamental duties attached to the rights. He expressed to offer his guidance to the students with regard to competitive exams.

Ms. Thea Mathias of III BA introduced the resource person Shri. Srinivasan Nandagopal.

Mr. Srinivasam Nandagopal is a journalist, academician, social activist, human resource development facilitator, adventure trainer, co-founder & convener, Centre for Integrated Learning, Mangalore and Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL). He is a consultant in the development sector and also a freelancer for National Adivasi Alliance (NAA).

Shri. Srinivasan Nandagopal gave an enlightening input on the topic. He stressed on the days of national importance which are not to be celebrated only on the said day but to be observed throughout. He said ‘India’ is blessed with a beautiful constitution and it is the constitution that has led the country more than the leaders have. The very constitution states “We the people……….” He inspired the students on various aspects and concluded the session with a quiz.

Ms. Sarik Ankitha, Dean Student Progression and Head of the department of Criminology delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Rachel Pais, III B.A was the host of the session.
