The Department of Social Work had the opportunity to participate in a one-day seminar on Building Inclusive Societies: Social Management Strategies for Sustainable Development, organized by St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Karnataka, on 25th March 2025. The seminar aimed to provide insights into inclusive development, social equity, and effective management strategies for achieving sustainable progress in society.

A group of students from the Master of Social Work (MSW) program, including 1st-year MSW students and 2nd-year students specializing in Community Development (CD), attended the seminar. The event provided an excellent platform for academic discussions, exchange of ideas, and interaction with scholars and professionals working in the field of social work and sustainable development.

Key Highlights of the Seminar:

  • The seminar featured expert speakers from academia, social work institutions, and government agencies who discussed various dimensions of inclusive societies, policy frameworks, and best practices in social management.
  • The sessions covered topics such as social inclusion policies, community participation, sustainable livelihood approaches, and the role of social work in fostering equity and justice. The event encouraged discussions on innovative strategies for addressing social disparities and integrating marginalized communities into mainstream development processes.

Student Participation and Paper Presentations:

One of the major highlights of the seminar was the active involvement of 1st-year MSW students, who presented three research papers during the technical sessions. Their presentations were well-received and appreciated by the panelists and attendees. The topics of the papers reflected contemporary issues in social work and sustainability, contributing to the academic discourse of the seminar. The participation of our students in this seminar provided them with valuable exposure to academic research, presentation skills, and networking opportunities. It also enhanced their understanding of real-world applications of social work theories and strategies in building inclusive and sustainable communities.
