The Psychoeducation on topic 'Functional Thinking' was conducted online on 08/05/2021 and 09/05/2021 for 10 students of Diploma in MLT, Ideal Institute of ParaMedical Science, Kumbala. The aim of the Psychoeducation was to promote functional thinking among the participants. The approach used was based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. To begin with, good rapport was built with the participants. The contents covered were the meaning of functional thinking, core beliefs and its categories, automatic thoughts and cognitive distortions. Exercises were also done in between the contents. The participants interacted well and responded actively. The content further delivered was how core beliefs work and techniques to deal with core beliefs. After explaining the core beliefs, a fantasy exercise was given to better understand their core beliefs, automatic thoughts and how it is affecting their current life. And some other exercises like written and figure representation exercises were also used with the techniques to deal with core beliefs. Thus participants understood the concepts well. They asked doubts and questions as well which also reflected their interest. They gave good feedback and gratitude for the session. Overall the Psychoeducation came very well.
The participants came to know about functional thinking and its importance. They also mentioned that they were hearing these concepts for the first time and they got much realisation. They understood core beliefs and they could identify the core belief which they were holding. They became aware about how core beliefs work and the techniques to deal with them. They also ensured they would practice the techniques which they learned during the training programme further in their life also.
