A Psycho education programme on the topic “Self Care” was conducted by 2 students of II MSc Counselling, Sr. Blessy Job and Ms. Nimisha N for 10 hostellers of different hostels in Kerala on 10th and 11th May 2021.
The aim of the programme was to promote the physical ,emotional, spiritual, social self care among the participants.DBT approach was used to teach the positive self care exercises.DBT emotional regulation skills were used to help the members to regulate their emotions through which they can develop and maintain emotional self care and distress tolerance skills. These techniques were used to develop physical and spiritual self care among the participants.Preliminary assessment was administered to assess the self care activities of the participants.
The session has helped the participants to know the deeper meaning and importance of self care. It has also facilitated the members to understand the physical, emotional, spiritual and social self care and the participants learned practical skills to enhance the self care in all these dimensions. Session also helped the participants to be aware of the consequences of lack of self care.
Participants shared that they have learned many practical and beneficial skills to apply in daily life to promote self care after attending this session. They also shared that, since the exercises were practiced during the session, they could experience the effectiveness of those practices. On the whole the facilitators were able to meet the objectives in promoting self care in all dimensions of their life.
