A Capacity Enhancement Programme was organized by the Department of MSc Counselling at the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, for participants of Roshni Nilaya School of social work. The session, held on 24th October 2024, from 11:45 AM to 12:45 AM, was conducted by the MSc Counselling students. It was designed for the UG students of School of Social work.
The objective of the session was to educate the participants about emotional intelligence, importance of emotional intelligence and techniques to regulate their emotions, with a focus on helping them recognize their emotions and cope up with their emotions. The facilitators aimed to provide insights into identifying emotions and techniques for managing their emotions.
The session began with an ice-breaking activity, fostering group cohesion and creating an engaging environment for the participants. This was followed by an exercise called "color your emotions" which helped the participants to identify their emotions. Participants were guided through activities that helped them identify their common emotions. The facilitators provided information about what is emotional intelligence and the importance emotional intelligence.
The key exercise focused on identifying emotions in the present and releasing those emotions, where group leaders demonstrated how to focus on their emotions. Then the participants were taught different techniques to cope-up with their emotions, techniques like channeling emotions in a healthy way, self-motivation and building resilience were taught to the participants.
The session concluded with a summarization of the things the participants learned and practiced in the session. The facilitators encouraged the participants to use the techniques outside the session too and appreciated the participants for their active participation. The facilitators collected the feedback from the participants.
