The Department of MSc Counselling at the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, organized an extension activity for IX and X grade students of Bright Model School. Held on 24th October 2024, from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM, the session was conducted by MSc Counselling students, focusing on understanding and managing peer pressure.
The primary goal of the session was to educate participants about the concept of peer pressure, distinguishing between positive and negative forms, and to equip them with practical strategies for recognizing and resisting peer pressure.
The session opened with an ice-breaking activity that helped foster a sense of group cohesion and created an engaging atmosphere. This was followed by an exercise titled ”Choose Your Destination," which encouraged participants to differentiate between positive and negative peer pressure by identifying examples of each.
The facilitators then provided a deeper understanding of peer pressure, its types, and its impact on individuals. Through various interactive activities, participants learned to recognize peer pressure and reflect on its influence.
A highlight of the session was a scenario-based group activity, where participants acted out scenarios provided by facilitators. Each group discussed and presented their responses to the situations, allowing participants to practice strategies for handling peer pressure. This activity emphasized the importance of standing up to negative influences and making independent decisions.
The session concluded with a summary of the key points covered. Facilitators encouraged participants to apply the learned techniques beyond the classroom and acknowledged their active participation. Feedback was collected from the participants, reflecting their engagement and insights gained from the session.
