On December 5, 2024, Ms. Sarik Ankitha, HOD, UG Department of criminology conducted a session titled "Empowering Youth: Navigating Cyber Safety", organized by Government First Grade College, Punjalakatte.

During the session, she provided valuable insights into the various types of cybercrimes that predominantly target young individuals. She explained how cybercriminals exploit vulnerabilities through phishing, cyberstalking, identity theft, financial fraud, and social media exploitation.

Ms. Ankitha also emphasized preventive measures to help individuals safeguard themselves in the digital world. She highlighted the importance of strong passwords, two-factor authentication, identifying suspicious links, and maintaining privacy settings on social media platforms.

Furthermore, she introduced the audience to government initiatives and official portals available for reporting cybercrimes. She guided participants on how to seek help and report incidents through platforms such as the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and cybercrime helplines.

The session aimed to empower youth with the necessary knowledge and tools to navigate the online space safely, fostering a culture of digital responsibility and awareness. A total of 60 students participated in the session.
