Botanical name- Dypsis Lutescens
Appearance- One of the most popular and attractive palms with golden stems and yellow-green fronds. Also known as butterfly palm, the leaves curve upwards in multiple stems to create a butterfly look. A decorative and very hardy tropical palm which is upto 8 meters in height and 2.5 meters in width with green foliage and golden trunk but no main trunk curving out from the base.
Origin- It’s native to Madagascar and naturalized in the Andaman Islands, Cuba, southern Florida, Haiti
Conditions required for growth- The Golden Cane Palm thrives in full sun to part shade. If placed indoors, a bright area with some direct sunlight is ideal. Keep the soil evenly moist, but not soggy. Water the soil thoroughly and wait for the water to drain through, then empty any excess water sitting in the saucer. Allow the top 3-5cm of soil to dry out before watering again. Reduce watering in the cooler months . Golden Cane Palm prefers average to warm environments and high humidity. It should be given regular misting, especially during the winter if the humidity is exceptionally dry. Keep away from drafts of hot and cold air that can harm the plant. Feed your Golden Cane Palm with a slow-release fertilizer during the growing season. Remove any dead or yellowing fronds.
Uses- It has been shown to reduce indoor air pollution and is one of the most popular indoor palms. Perfect for bringing a feel of trees and tropics to any room without overwhelming it. Multiple stems give this palm a broad habit suited to softly filling empty corners or providing a lush backdrop to a mix of other houseplants. They make a great indoor plant in a pot or they can be planted in the garden as a screen or specimen plant.
