On June 21, 2017 - The School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, marked the International Yoga Day with enthusiasm and active participation from students and faculty alike. The event, held at the college auditorium, saw over 100 students and 70 members of the public in attendance.
The celebration, jointly organized by the NSS unit and the Department of Physical Education, featured expert guidance from Mrs. Anu and Dr. Arun Gosh from Harmony Hospital, Mangalore. The session, which ran from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM during the college's mentoring hour, aimed to promote the importance of yoga in daily life.
Mrs. Anu, the main instructor, emphasized that yoga transcends religious boundaries and encouraged everyone to participate. She demonstrated various asanas, focusing on breathing control techniques and memory-enhancing exercises. A highlight of the session was the demonstration of the 12-step Surya Namaskar, which she noted as beneficial for weight reduction.
Dr. Arun Gosh concluded the program with an exciting announcement. He informed the attendees about daily yoga classes to be conducted on the college campus from 6 AM to 8 AM, inviting everyone to join and embrace a healthier lifestyle.
Associate Professor Cecilia Goveas, the NSS program officer, introduced the yoga instructors to the students. Mr. Sandeep Ullal, Head of the Department of Physical Education, delivered the vote of thanks.
This event marks the third year of International Yoga Day celebrations since its inception in 2015, reflecting a growing global recognition of yoga's benefits for physical and mental well-being.
