The School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, joined the global celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21, 2018. The event, organized by the Department of Physical Education and the NSS unit of the college, took place in the college auditorium from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Ms. Savitha K, an M.Sc. in Yogic Science and a certified Yoga Trainer, led the proceedings as the resource person. She emphasized the importance of yoga, stating, "Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self."

The event was coordinated by Associate Professor Cecilia Goveas, the NSS programme officer, and Mr. Sandeep Ullal, Head of the Department of Physical Education. Prof. Goveas introduced the yoga instructors to the students, while Mr. Ullal proposed the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the program.

The highlight of the celebration was a one-hour yoga demonstration, which saw enthusiastic participation from both students and staff. Over 140 students and 50 staff members took part in the yoga session, making it a well-attended event.

International Yoga Day, commonly known as Yoga Day, has been celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015. The School of Social Work's participation underscores the growing recognition of yoga's importance in promoting physical and mental well-being among educational institutions.

As yoga continues to gain popularity worldwide, events like these serve to raise awareness about its benefits and encourage more people to incorporate this ancient practice into their daily lives.
