Our country's official language is Hindi. Hindi is spoken by over half a billion people worldwide, making it the world's fourth most commonly spoken first language. Hindi department at School of Social Work first opened its doors in 1970. For first and second-year BA/BSW students, Hindi is offered as a second language.
Both the undergraduate programmes are served by the curricula, which includes Indian cultural and historical sensibilities, as well as Hindi drama, poetry, and prose. The syllabus is entirely job-oriented and includes programming skills in Hindi translation and reporting, drama, film scripts, folklore, and tradition. The students receive computer training in Hindi translation, blogging, text editing, and script writing. Choosing Hindi as a second language may also help them improve their employability.

हमारे देश की आधिकारिक भाषा हिन्दी है। हिन्दी भाषा विश्व भर में करीब अरब लोगों के द्वारा बोली जाने वाली भाषा है जो दुनिया में सर्वाधिक बोली जाने वाली प्रथम चौथी भाषा है। स्कूल ऑफ सोशल वर्क द्वारा सन् 1970 में हिन्दी विभाग की स्थापना की गई। बी.ए./बी.एस.डब्ल्यू. प्रथम और द्वितीय वर्ष के विद्यार्थियों के लिये हिन्दी भाषा द्वितीय भाषा के रूप में प्रस्तावित की गई है।
उक्त दोनों स्नातक कार्यक्रमों के पाठ्यक्रमों में भारतीय सांस्कृतिक और ऐतिहासिक संवेदनाओं के साथ-साथ हिन्दी नाटक, कविता और गद्य आदि सम्मिलित किए गए हैं। पाठ्यक्रम पूर्ण रूप से व्यवसाय-उन्मुख है जिसमें हिन्दी अनुवाद, प्रतिवेदन, नाटक, फिल्म-लिपि, लोककथा, परंपराएँ शामिल हैं। छात्रों को हिन्दी अनुवाद, ब्लॉगिंग, पाठ-संपादन, और लिपि लेखन में कम्प्यूटर प्रशिक्षण दिया जाता है। हिन्दी भाषा को दूसरी भाषा के रूप में चुनाव उनके लिए रोजगार को बेहतर बनाने में मददगार साबित हो सकता है।
