The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized a session on ‘Techniques of Police Interrogation’ for first year MSc CFS students on 26th September 2022 at 2pm. Ms. Swapna Gouri, Assistant Professor, Department of Criminology, St. Philomena College, Mysuru and an alumni of the department was the resource person.
Ms. Swapna shared her experience working in the police station along with the police personnel during the 15 days of block placement at Vittal Police station under the jurisdiction of Mangaluru District Police. She explained about the concept of Interrogation and application of methods of interrogation based on the types of suspects. She gave clarity between the procedure of interviewing of witness and interrogating the suspects with examples.
Further, she discussed about the principles of interrogation such as studying the suspects background, plan, preparation, conducting interrogation at a safe and secured place, use of skilful questioning techniques instead of third degree, interrogation to be done by trained and experienced interrogator, continuity, no violation of legal, constitutional provision and availability of logistic.
She also spoke about the job opportunities in the field of Criminology and Forensic Science, and advised the students to have one goal in life. It was an interactive session where the students actively participated. The students expressed in their feedback that the session was informative and interactive. They could approach freely to get answer for their queries. Altogether, 14 students were present during the session.
