As a part of academic practical curriculum, second year students of Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice Specialization accompanied by Mr. Niketh P.S., Assistant Professor of the department had been to Arivu Early Intervention Center, Shakthinagara, Mangaluru on Friday, 19th May 2023 at 10:30 am.
The main objective of the visit was to learn the functions and services that are provided by the institution to the children. Mrs. Poornima Bhat, the founder of the Arivu Early Intervention Center, interacted with the students and explained about the working nature of the institution and types of training provided to the children of intellectual disabilities.
The students learnt about the purpose of establishing the institution, categories of children such as very severe, moderate, mild and profiler. different kinds of intellectually disabled children, pre skills and communication and vocational training that are provided for the special needs children. There was an opportunity for the students to interact with the faculties and children of the institution. Since it was an activities day for the children, students conducted activities and participated with them too. Students expressed that the visit was very effective learning experience handling children with various disabilities and the therapies provided for them. The visit ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Likhitha V K., Second year student of MSc CFS at 12.30pm. Altogether, 7 students of the college, 25 children and 5 faculties were part of this programme.
