The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized an academic visit to “District Child Protection Unit” (DCPU), Pandeshwar, Mangaluru, for Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice (FPCJ) Specialization as a part of their practical curriculum on Tuesday, 23rd May 2023 at 10am. Mr. Niketh P.S., Assistant Professor, MSc Criminology and Forensic Science of the college accompanied the students.

The main objective for the visit is to gain insight into the nature of work, structure, services provided by DCPU and the cases handled by them. Mrs. Sowbhagya Shetty, Legal cum Probation Officer, gave a brief introduction about the DCPU administration. Further, Mr. Kumar Shettigar, the Protection Officer gave an in-depth knowledge about the function, structure, procedure followed for the protection of children both institutional and non-institutional care, adoption procedure and cases handled along with police officials. Thereafter, students interacted with the staff of DCPU to know their role and responsibilities.

The students expressed that the visit helped them to gain information about the establishment of DCPU, various schemes offered by them, functions, guidelines, implementation of different programmes and the supported services offered to the children. At the end, Mr. Kumar, the District Child Protection Officer addressed the students to look for the opportunities in government sectors and to crack competitive examinations. Ms. Likhitha V. K. a second year student of MSc CFS delivered the vote of thanks at 1pm. Altogether, 7 students, one faculty of the college and 10 staff of the organization were present during the interaction.
