As a part of Post Graduate Common Forum Activity, Forensis Forum of MSc Criminology and Forensic Science had organised an awareness programme on the theme ‘Women, Crime and Justice’ for the students of MSW, MSc Counselling and MSc CFS on 19th April 2023 at 3.30pm in the Seminar hall of the college.
The aim of the programme is to create an awareness about various crimes occurring against women in the society, role of students and public in general to prevent such crimes and alertness on laws relating to these crimes with punishments. The activity was conducted by the students of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science which included a session on the theme, along with a skit and an activity. The program began with a prayer invoking God's blessings followed by a formal welcome. Ms. Namitha Rozario student of first year MSc Criminology and Forensic Science gave an introductory note on ‘Crime against women and ways to prevent it’.
A skit was presented by the students on various kinds of crimes committed against women such as eve teasing, bullying, rape, dowry harassment, chain snatching and also its preventive measures. Further, a session was conducted by Ms. Nashwa Iqbal on the topic ‘Special Acts for the protection of Women in India’. She spoke about different acts relating to women such as Female Infanticide Prevention Act, Hindu Widow Remarriage Act, Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, Dowry Prohibition Act, Equal Remuneration Act, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, Commission of Sati Prevention Act and so on. Thereafter an activity was conducted by the second year students of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science by dividing the students into 4 groups. They were asked to answer the questions relating to women, the group with more number of correct answers was declared as the winners and was appreciated.
The event concluded at 4.30pm with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Surya Prakash, student of second year MSc CFS. The students expressed that the theme was of need of the hour and the programme was very informative, interactive and participatory. Altogether, 110 students were present during the event. Ms. Nisha Ankitha D’ Souza, class representative of Questioned Documents and Impression Evidences specialization compered the whole event successfully.
