The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized an academic visit to the Forensic Psychology Division of the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), Kuntikana, Mangaluru for second year Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice (FPCJ) specialization on 16th February 2024 at 12 pm. Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Assistant Professor, Department of MSc Criminology and Forensic Science of the college accompanied the students.
The main aim of the visit was to know the structure and functions of the Forensic Psychology division of RFSL, to learn about the various methods conducted to detect the deception like Criminal Profiling, Brain Fingerprinting, and Narco-analysis. The students interacted with the Scientific Officer Dr. Balaji who explained the procedures of Criminal profiling, Polygraph test, Brain Mapping, Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature and Narco Analysis test. Further, he explained about the importance of understanding behaviour and how it helps in solving cases. He briefed about role of Forensic Psychology in solving the cases. The students were also shown the polygraph test machine and the different components were explained. Students also could put forth their queries to the Scientific officers.
Students expressed that the visit was very informative and got to learn about the practical principles of the polygraph test. The visit concluded at 3:00pm with a vote of thanks. Altogether, 07 students, one intern and a faculty of the department along with scientific officers of the Lab were part of the interaction.
