The Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science had organized an academic exposure to the Central Laboratory of Fr. Muller Hospital, Mangaluru on 6th May, 2024 at 2.30 pm for the second-year students of Questioned Document and Impression Evidences (QDIE) specialization accompanied by Ms. Athira VJ, Assistant Professor of the department.
The objectives of the visit were to know the general functions of a Laboratory, to learn the procedure of examination of collected samples and to acquire practical knowledge about the mechanism of instruments used in the Laboratory. Mr. Melroy, an intern of Fr. Muller Medical College explained about the different divisions of the Central Laboratory to the students. During the visit, the students got an exposure to the Biochemistry, Haematology, Histopathology, Virology, Parasitology, Mycology and Microbiology Laboratory. They also explained the concepts like calibration, internal quality control and external quality control. Further, the Biohazard Waste Disposal Method and the various records maintained in the laboratory were discussed.
Students gave positive feedback with regard to the visit that they could gain practical knowledge about the procedures followed in the laboratory and working principles of various instruments. The visit concluded at 4.00pm. Altogether, 11 students, a faculty of the department were part of this session.
