Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Forensis Forum of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Mangaluru and the Forensic Alumni Association Roshni, Mangaluru (FAARM) in collaboration with SRL Trinity Vision Pvt. Ltd, Mangaluru as a part of Memorandum of Understanding organized a workshop, SPASHTATHA: Navigating the Future Investigators, in commemoration of sixth death anniversary of Late Dr. B. Ashoka, Former HOD and the Pioneer to introduce the subject Criminology and Forensic Science to Mangaluru in 1978 which was held on 29th July 2024 in the college campus.

The workshop aimed to provide insight into the career development of Criminology and Forensic Science students. The workshop began by invoking God’s blessings and paying homage to the departed soul of Dr. B. Ashoka. Dr. Saritha D'Souza, Head of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science and the IQAC coordinator of the college gave introductory note about the purpose of organizing the programme with the objective of providing information about the opportunities in the field. Ashok sir always wished to conduct such programmmes in collaboration with Police, NGO’s, Bank Officials, Lawyers, Scientific Officers and do on. There will be three sessions of the workshop with various field in Criminology and Forensic Science and students must make use of the opportunity by actively participating she said. A short video was featuring to convey and inspire the audience about the life of Dr. B. Ashoka.

The presiding officer Prof. Cecilia Farida Goveas, Controller of Examination of the college inaugurated the workshop and shared the memories she had with Dr. B. Ashoka who was her colleague. He was a visionary, simple and humble personality with high academic records. He was encouraging the students to reach the higher level than him in their job profile and made sure that he is available for all those who in need.

The first session was taken by Mr. Vinith Jennifer Raj M, Security Officer, Father Muller Charitable Institute, Mangaluru on the topic ‘Preliminary Investigation and Disciplinary Proceedings in Vigilance Unit at 10.30am. The second session was held at 1.30pm on the topic ‘Opportunities in the field of Research” by Dr. Devaseelan S, MD, SRL Trinity Vision Pvt. Ltd and Assistant Professor, Department of Forensic Science and Criminology IAHS, Srinivas University, Mukka, Mangaluru

The third session was held at 3.00pm on the topic “Unveiling the Truth of Crime Scene” by Dr. Mahabalesh Shetty.MD Professor and Head, Dept. of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, KSHEMA and Crime Scene Expert, Mangaluru. He spoke about the importance of handling the evidence, significance of sketching of crime scene than the photography, role of expert and their experience in interpreting the crime scene while providing justice, observation of circumstantial evidences by narrating the cases that he has handled.

Mr. Pradeep Loyed martis, Vice-President of Forensic Alumni Association, Roshni, Mangaluru, Dr. Bernal Sam Roy and Dr. Ajmal Roshan V.P. of KSHEMA, Deralakatte, Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Mr. Niketh P.S. and Ms, Nashwa Iqbal, Assistant Professors of the Post Graduate Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, Mr. Anees Rahman C.P, Assistant Professor of UG Department of Criminology, and the students of both UG and PG department of Criminology and Forensic Science were present during the event.

Students of MSc Criminology and Forensic Science Ms. Fathima Farasath, Ms. Cressida Mascarenhas, Ms. Jyothi Prasannan, Mr. Nandu Shaji, Ms. Nicole Mendonca welcomed the gathering and delivered the vote of thanks respectively. Ms. Feba Shamma R. compered the event and Ms. Adheena M. compiled the report. Altogether, 58 students and 12 faculties were part of the event.
