An extension programme on the topic "Anger Management" was organised by the department of M. Sc. Counselling, School Of, Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, for 6th standard students of St. Rita English medium school, Mangala Nagar, Mangaluru, facilitated by 28 students from 2nd M. Sc. Counselling on 10th November, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:30am. 60 students of class 6, participated eagerly and actively in the group process.
The objectives of the session were to make the students aware of the effects of anger and equip them with anger management techniques.
The facilitators began with an icebreaker with balloons followed by a small exercise with situations with different reactions under them, to understand the anger levels of the students. The facilitators then did a role play activity to show the negative effects of anger which was followed by a discussion on alternate ways to react by using logical consequences and then a roleplay of those reactions for the same situations as earlier.
The facilitators then educated the students on the different techniques to manage anger and by practicing it along with the students. The students were educated on the negative effects of anger, other alternatives to reacting to the anger and ways to dissipate their anger to use better reaction strategies which would be useful for school settings where the students need to control and regulate their anger levels.
