The first-year MSc. Counselling students, namely Scottlyn Spillgreen, Thanveera, and Mymoon Luthfa, from the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, led a resource talk at St. Ann’s Higher Primary School on Wednesday, 6th March 2024. Their objective was to address the prevalent issue of anxiety among students. Promptly commencing at 2:00 pm, the resource persons engaged with a group of 40 students from class 5. Using an interactive lecture format, they explored the topic of “Coping with Anxiety: Let’s Tame the Worry Monsters.” Through informative content, real-life examples, and engaging activities, the resource persons effectively conveyed the complexities of anxiety and provided practical tools for managing it. The session successfully achieved its objectives by imparting knowledge about anxiety signs and symptoms, discussing common manifestations of anxiety, and facilitating discussions on coping mechanisms such as deep breathing exercises, mindfulness moments, positive affirmations, and maintaining worry journals.
Throughout the session, the resource persons maintained a supportive and empathetic demeanour, creating a safe space for students to express their concerns and seek guidance. They encouraged open dialogue and addressed queries raised by the students, fostering a sense of trust and camaraderie.
In conclusion, the resource talk on coping with anxiety proved to be highly beneficial for the students of St. Ann’s Higher Primary School. The insights gained and practical strategies shared are invaluable resources in helping students navigate their emotional well-being.
