On September 30, 2024, the MSc Counselling First Year students conducted a capacity enhancement programme centered on the topic of dyslexia. The forum activity was conducted in the Maria Paiva hall of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya from 3:30 to 4:30 PM,
The event commenced with the presentation of a short story that illustrated the journey of a young woman in college living with dyslexia. The story highlighted the various academic and personal challenges she encountered due to her condition, and how she persevered to overcome these obstacles through social support and confidence. The story aimed to enhance the audience's understanding and empathy towards the struggles faced by individuals with dyslexia, particularly in educational environments.
Following the presentation, a mystery-solving activity was organized, designed to offer participants a glimpse into the cognitive challenges dyslexic individuals experience. Clues with jumbled letters were strategically placed around the college, simulating the difficulty in processing written information, a common trait of dyslexia. This interactive element not only engaged the participants but also deepened their awareness of the condition by allowing them to experience its challenges firsthand. The program -successfully fostered a greater sense of understanding and inclusivity regarding learning disabilities.
