A full-day session on "Gender Sensitization, Sexual Harassment, and Human Rights" was organized on March 14th and 15th, 2023, for first and second-year MSW students. The two-day session began with a prayer, followed by a welcome note and an introductory note about the resource person, Advocate Ms. Rushila Rebello.
During the session, Advocate Rushila facilitated the participants in understanding the difference between the concepts of sex and gender, as well as the prevailing taboos and conditioning in society. The resource person emphasized how people are categorized and discriminated against based on their sex, and its impact on individuals and society as a whole.
The post-lunch session started with an energetic and empowering action song, "Naari Shakthi." The resource person invited a male volunteer for an activity to facilitate a session on women's empowerment. She also oriented the students about the constitutional provisions in our Indian Constitution, Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH), and Integrated Complaint Committee (ICC).
A documentary video and research findings were shared to substantiate the day's session. The session helped the participants enhance their faith in the educational institution and identify harassment while creating a sense of empowerment and collective responsibility to stop sexual harassment. The sessions had a good balance of input as well as meaningful activities.
Overall, the two-day session was creative, informative, and interactive. A total of 49(1st year MSW) & 55 (2nd Year MSW) students participated in the session which was organised in the seminar hall.
