The Department of Criminology organised an Exposure visit to the District Prison on 28th October 2021 at 1 P.M. for the students of criminology. Mr. Iman Kasim, Jailor, Mangaluru District Prison explained about different types of prisons and the hierarchy of the prison officials. The Manguluru District Prison is an under trial prison. Students were taken on a tour of the old prison along with Mr. Gopinath, Jailer who showed the library and the Video Conferencing rooms to the students. The library has around 6000 books and the inmates can borrow the books and study them in their respective cells. The Video Conferencing room has been extensively used during the past 1 year due to covid. As the prisoners were not allowed to go out the trails were being held in the Video Conferencing room which is connected to the court. The students were also shown the Women's cell and the new prison premises. At the end of the tour Shri. Chandan Patel, Superintendent of prison addressed the students and clarified all their questions. He even mentioned about their program Saksharatha Dina which is scheduled on 1st November. It is a Literacy program for the illiterate prisoners to be literate. A total of 20 students and 4 faculties of the institution visited the prison.
