An extension programme for 75 kindergarteners at Roshni Nilaya Kindergarten was organized on Wednesday, 2nd November 2022 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Realizing that early childhood education is a period of intensive cognitive development, fifty II BA students of Psychology focussed on the theme of constructive play that develops creativity, imagination, flexibility and adaptability.
Recognizing that Origami (art of folding paper into recognizable models) helps develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, sequencing skills and mental concentration, a fun learning ambience was created and all the children were taught to make paper sunglasses through modelling and scaffolding.
The extension programme was playful yet challenging. The students visited the kindergarten as college students and left the premises nostalgic, understanding Piaget’s and Vygotsky's theories of cognitive development better with the affirmation that cognitive abilities are socially guided and constructed.
