Capacity building training on CEDAW (Committee on the Elimination of Description Against Women) for advancing Women’s Rights and Equality
The National Alliance Women(NAWO) has organized a Capacity Building training programme on CEDAW (Committee on the Elimination of Description Against Women) on 23rd and 24th November 2022, at Indian Social Institute(ISI), Bangalore. The National Alliance Women(NAWO)is working towards an inclusive society based on equality, justice and freedom from any kind of violence. In order to promote the objectives and as they are in the process of submitting the 6th Alternative NGO report to the concerned International Organization through CEDAW, the National Alliance Women(NAWO) organization has invited the young women activities from grass root organizations, practicing lawyers/advocates, students from various educational Institutions for the Capacity building training on CEDAW. From the Department of Rural Development two students Ms. Ayesha Shahama and Sheeja Fathim along with Ms. Coin D’Souza faculty member attended the training programme.
The topics covered under the training programmes were:
• Human rights- Values and Standards.
• History of CEDAW Convention and the key features of convention.
• Understanding Discrimination, Gender based violence, Social construction of sex and gender.
• Understanding equality and Principles of State Obligation.
• Integrating local legal strategies to International processes reporting mechanisms and alternative report.
The two days training programme was very informative and enhanced the knowledge and empowered the participants work towards gender equality.
