SAHAYOG Forum- BSW Department organised an Onam celebration for UG students at the College Auditorium, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru on the 29th August 2023.
The Pookalam Competition- A Floral Extravaganza was held in the morning for students of BA and BSW classes who enthusiastically participated, showcasing their creativity and teamwork. The competition was held class wise, with each class putting forth their best efforts to create stunning floral designs. The Pookalams added a touch of tradition and beauty to the event.
In the afternoon, The Onam celebration unfolded in all its glory in the expansive outdoor venue adjacent to the auditorium, where the vibrant festivities came to life under the open sky. Before the official commencement of the program, the audience was treated to a mesmerizing Thiruvathira dance performance by Final year BSW students. The graceful and synchronized movements of the dancers showcased the rich cultural heritage of Kerala.
Under the radiant Onam sun, our campus transformed into a vibrant playground where students and faculty came together in a harmonious celebration. In a spirited fusion of tradition and modernity, students enjoyed sack races, balloon cup relays, and the ever-thrilling lemon and spoon race and participated in Tug of War. Meanwhile our teaching and non-teaching staff added a touch of enthusiasm with lively rounds of musical chairs, mastering the artful chakkuli challenge, showcased their skills in the traditional pot-breaking competition.
Amidst laughter and cheers, the excitement of the celebration reached its peak with not just one, but two spectacular flash mobs performed by the BA and BSW students. These spontaneous and energetic dance performances took everyone by surprise and added an element of surprise and excitement to the event. The essence of Onam was further enriched with the sweet flavor of laddu, symbolizing togetherness and the magic of this special occasion.
