Project Angel
An initiative for prevention of child sexual abuse - was launched by Inchara Foundation in collaboration with Rotary Club of Mangalore and Sociology-Economics Forum. District Minister In-Charge, Shri Ramanath Rai, inaugurated the programme. The Exective Director of Inchara Foundation, Mr Preetham Rodrigues, briefed about the project.
Dr Rameela Shekhar, the resource person, spoke on the relevance of the project and the necessity to speak about the sexual abuse one goes through instead of blaming fate. She urged the authorities to start awareness programme right from the kindergarten about good and bad touch.
Prinicipal, Dr Spohia Fernandes, said child sexual abuse is a silent and violent epidemic. Every child being an angel, steps should be taken to prevent every angel in our society.
Shri Ramanath Rai symbolically launched the project by cutting the cake with four children dressed like angels. He said, Project Angel is the need of the hour because child sexual abuse is on the increase. We need to treat children as God and not abuse them. Good people in society can bring about changes and intellectual people should come forward and be part of it.
President Rotary Club, Shri Dijaraj Nair, and Shri Usmaan, officer, DCPU, also spoke on the occasion. Prof. Cecilia Goveas, Department of Economics and Convenor of the Forum welcomed the gathering and Ms Joan O’Brien, Department of Sociology, Co-ordinator, delivered the vote of thanks.
