The Career Guidance Program for the final-year BA and BSW students was held on 28th February 2025 in the college auditorium. This program was meticulously organized to equip students with the knowledge required to make informed decisions about their future career paths. Esteemed speakers from various professional backgrounds shared valuable insights, offering a comprehensive understanding of diverse career opportunities.66 final year students from the BA and BSW participated in the Career Guidance Program.
The first session, led by Mr. Niketh P. S., Assistant Professor and Campus Security and Vigilance Chief, focused on career opportunities in Criminology and Forensic Science. He introduced the MSc program in Criminology and Forensic Science, highlighting its eligibility criteria and specializations, such as Questioned Document and Impression Evidence and Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice. Mr. Niketh emphasized the importance of internships, practical training, and research projects in developing expertise in the field. He elaborated on potential career options, including roles such as Scene of Crime Officer, Forensic Psychologist, and Defense Criminologist, underlining the need for hands-on skills in addition to academic qualifications.
The second session, delivered by Ms. P. Angelin Rachel Thangam, Assistant Professor in the MSW program, explored career prospects in social work. She emphasized the societal impact of social work and detailed the MSW program’s structure, which offers specializations in Community Development, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, and Personnel Management and Industrial Relations. Ms. Thangam discussed career opportunities in corporate HR, NGOs, hospitals, and policymaking, distinguishing the MSW HR program's human-centered approach from the business-oriented MBA HR. Her engaging presentation concluded with a Q&A session, providing students with personalized guidance.
Dr. Rosa Nimmy Mathew, Head of the Department of Psychology, conducted the third session on career pathways in psychology. She outlined postgraduate options such as MSc programs in Clinical, Counseling, and Corporate Psychology, along with Masters in Public Health and Applied Psychology. Dr. Rosa highlighted careers in school and corporate counseling, rehabilitation, life coaching, sports psychology, and academia. She encouraged students to pursue internships and certifications to enhance their career readiness, providing a motivating perspective on psychology as a fulfilling profession.
The fourth session, presented by Ms. Shravya Naik, a final-year MSW (HR) student, focused on Secretarial Practice. She shared practical insights into the course structure, emphasizing skills such as communication, time management, and organizational efficiency. Ms. Naik discussed career opportunities in corporate governance, including roles as Company Secretaries, and advised students on competitive exams and career planning strategies.
Representatives from Sham Institute, Mangalore, conducted the fifth session, which highlighted career opportunities in aviation, including cabin crew, ground staff, and airport management. They also discussed related fields like retail and hospitality management. The speakers emphasized the importance of grooming, soft skills, and practical exposure while assuring students of 100% placement opportunities through the institute’s industry connections.
The sixth session, delivered by Ms. Vineetha Pereira, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, examined the wide-ranging career options enabled by proficiency in English. She explored fields such as teaching, writing and publishing, corporate communication, media, and translation. Ms. Pereira also encouraged entrepreneurial ventures like freelancing and independent publishing, offering students a broader perspective on careers in English.
The final session, led by Dr. Kiran Prasad B., Assistant Professor and Dean of Administration, delved into career opportunities in Sociology and Economics. Dr. Kiran discussed roles such as financial analysts, policy advisors, urban planners, and market researchers. He also stressed the importance of pursuing advanced degrees and certifications to enhance employability and remain competitive in the job market.
