The School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its graduation day on November 5, 2024, in a ceremony filled with tradition and academic excellence.
The proceedings commenced with a grand procession led by the college band under the direction of bandmaster Joel of 3rd BA, accompanied by NCC Cadets commanded by Senior Under Officer Anuj. The dignitaries, including Chief Guest Prof. Alwin Vincent D'sa, Registrar of St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), were escorted to the college auditorium.
The formal ceremony began at 5:00 PM with a melodious prayer song by the college choir. The traditional lamp-lighting ceremony was performed by Prof. D'sa along with other distinguished guests, including Dr. Sophia N. Fernandes (Principal), Ms. Vida Sequeira (President of the Institute of Social Service), and Prof. Eveleen Benis (Secretary of the Institute of Social Service).
In her welcome address, Dr. Sandra Sunita Lobo, Dean of UG Studies, expressed pride in the graduating class's achievements. The Chief Guest, in his graduation address, emphasized that the day represented more than just a ceremony, highlighting the institution's role in upholding moral values. Prof. D'sa shared a personal connection, noting that the college was his children's alma mater.
A significant highlight of the evening was the felicitation of rank holders and graduates from various departments. Outstanding students from BA, BSW, MSW, M.Sc. Counselling, and M.Sc. Criminology and Forensic Science programs received certificates and medals for their academic excellence.
Following the distribution of accolades, Dr. Sophia N. Fernandes administered the pledge of loyalty to the graduating students. Ms. Vida Sequeira delivered the presidential address, encouraging graduates to carry forward their acquired knowledge and wisdom.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Assoc. Prof. Cecilia Farida Goveas, Controller of Examinations, followed by the National Anthem led by the college choir. Dr. Meena Monteiro, Dean of Social Work, skilfully compered the entire program.
