Department of Criminology in collaboration with Kripa Foundation Mangaluru had organised a street play in different locations of Mangaluru on the occasion of World AIDS Day on 1st December 2019. Students caught the attention of the public and sparked a sense of awareness about HIV/AIDS it’s causes, effects and Myths.
"Where the Head is held High and the Mind is Without Fear" - Republic Day Celebration
On 26th January 2021, National Service Scheme in association with Department of Physical Education of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya celebrated a theme based programme on “Republic Day 2021 - Peace and Trust”.
The programme started with a Prayer Song by Ms. Bhakthi and Ms. Rose Priya, I B.S.W. NSS Volunteers, Ms. Sinchana Shetty, I B.S.W. NSS Volunteer welcomed the gathering, Chief Guest - Mrs. Vidya Dinker, Social Activist, Mangaluru hoisted the flag and with great respect the ceremony was completed and the National Anthem was sung.
The Portrait of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the Father of the Indian Constitution was garlanded during the ceremony. The UG Students of Roshni Nilaya sang a patriotic song after which Mr. Manuel Sugesh, II B.S.W. NSS Student Representative delivered a speech on the occasion of Republic Day.
Ms. Shetty Nidhi Gopal I B.A NSS Volunteer introduced the Chief Guest - Mrs. Vidya Dinker, Social Activist, Mangaluru, who inspired and motivated the gathering by words that although we attain freedom we still are in the clutches of social evils and by uniting our hearts as one we attain inner freedom. Then the PG Students of Roshni Nilaya sang a patriotic song.
On this Occasion Dr. Juliet C J, Principal, Dr. Jenis Mary P., Vice Principal, Ms. Philomena D’Sa, Provincial, DHM, Ms. Veeda Sequiera, President and Professor Eveleen Benis, Secretary, Institute of Social Service, Professor Vineetha K., Registrar (Evaluation), Mr. Obanath, NSS Programme Officer, Ms. Veena B. K, Assistant NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Sandeep Ullal, Physical Director, Dr. Kiran Prasad, IT Coordinator, Staff and NSS volunteers participated in the event.
The Master of Ceremony was Ms. Varsha Bhat, II BA NSS Volunteer and the programme ended with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Mithila Rayankar, I B.A NSS Volunteer.
As the theme of the 72nd Republic Day which was based on Peace and Trust Dr. Juliet C.J., Principal, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya delivered the inaugural speech at the gates of the College and then flagged off with the “Stand for Peace and Trust " by UG and PG Staff and Students from the College Gate to Valencia Circle. The celebration ended by distributing sweets among all the staff and students of the College.
Celebrating World Social Work Day 2021
BSW Department celebrated World Social Work Day 2021 Ubuntu- I Am Because We Are - Strengthening Social Solidarity and Global Connectedness for UG and PG students at the College Amphitheatre of School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya on 16th of March 2021.
The programme started with evoking God’s blessings through a prayer song led by Dr. Sophia N Fernandes, Associate Professor, BSW Department. Mrs. Veena B.K., Assistant Professor, BSW Department welcomed the gathering. Dr. Juliet C.J., Principal gave the Presidential Address. The UG students grabbed the attention of the audience through Street Play on the theme Anti Child Labour. Chief Guest of the programme was Professor Eveleen Benis, Secretary, Institute of Social Service, who motivated the gathering through connecting with the people with haves and have-nots. Mrs. Vineetha K, Associate Professor and Head of the BSW Departement, initiated the service project and Mrs. Anusuya Shenoy, Assistant Professor, BSW Department introduced the beneficiaries of the service project Mrs. Renukha and Mrs. Neelamma, vegetable vendors. They were given umbrellas to provide them shade and to prevent the spoilage of vegetables.
The Master of Ceremony and vote of thanks was given by Ms. Shobha Jacintha D’Souza, Assistant Professor, BSW Department. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
Gandhi Jayanthi celebration
On 2nd October 2018 Ullal Municipal Corporation celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi ,on behalf of swach Bharath Mission with the motto of “Swatchatha hi seva-swatchatheya seva”. Procession started at 9 o clock from Bharath High School to Ullal CMC . The procession inaugurated by Shri Krishnapa who is an environmentalist and exclusively working for the sustainable society, and other leaders dignitaries ,teachers, Anganvadi workers ,community people and students participated for the same.
There were number of students from B.M High school, Bharath High School, MSW and BSW students and faculties from School Of Social Work Roshni Nilaya took active participation for this procession with slogan and singing awareness songs too.
Street play was performed by the students from School Of Social Work Roshni Nilaya Mangaluru, theme about ‘ZERO WASTE MANAGEMENT’ through this, students tried to say that “waste is not a waste it is resources if we manage it in a proper way” After that the formal program continued with presidential ship of Mrs Vani Alva the commissioner of Ullal C M C.
On behalf of Gandi Jayanthi Mrs VAni Alva and other dignitaries respected and garland Gandhiji’s photo and paused for a while in silence. There after Mr Krishnappa the environmentalist honoured and garland by the CMC for his wonderful ,committed works and love toward the environment in his older age . All the elected members of the community ,and other head of the departments facilitated and participated for the same.
Teacher’s Day Celebrations and Traditional Day

The programme started with a flash-mob performance by the students as a welcome to the teachers. . Once everyone was seated in the Auditorium, the formal programme began with a prayer song lead by Mr. Anil Pinto, Ms. Rashmitha Veigas and Ms. Varsha Chakrapani. The MC for the day Ms. Swathi greeted the gathering and called upon, the President Ms. Sreenidhi to give the Welcome Speech, after which the Principal Ms. Juliet CJ was called upon to give the Presidential Address. Mr. Jason from the 1st MSW spoke a few words about our Teachers, followed by the activities that were planned by each of the forum for the teachers. The programme concluded with few of our teachers singing the song- we’re on the top of the world. The programme ended with the vote of thanks given by Ms. Rishika Ramanand. The Teachers Day programme was followed by Traditional Day.
The Traditional Day started at around 2:00pm with the MC’s Ms. Shraddha and Mr. Ratan welcoming the gathering. It started with the cultural performances; from the 1st MSW performing a dance, Mr. Pavan from the 1st MSc Counselling sang for the audience, after which some of the students were called upon to talk about their culture and its significance. It was time for the Traditional games. The games conducted were: Tug of War, Lemon and Spoon and Lagori. All the games were enjoyed by everyone and the programme closed with Baila where all the boys and girls came together and danced to the musical beats.
The Community of ROSHNI NILAYA celebrates Christmas and New Year
Glory to God in the Highest - Christmas and New Year Celebration at School of Social Work, ROSHNI NILAYA.
The Community of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, celebrated the joy of Christmas and the arrival of New Year in the College Auditorium on the 2nd of January 2020. Ms. Colin D'Souza, was falicitated and honoured by the Management and Faculty representatives as she completed her very successful tenure as the President of the Institution.
The formal programme was followed by an interactive fun-filled session, complete with games, on-the-spot role plays and singing competitions. It ended with a fellowship tea-time where home-made snacks were served. It was a time of sharing , friendship and comoraderie among the members of the Management, the Faculty and the Non- Teaching Staff.
A Nation's Culture resides in the hearts of it's people - Republic Day Celebration
The Republic day was celebrated at the College premises on the 26th of January 2020.
The Chief Guest for this occasion was Professor Shobhana N., Dean of the Humanities section and Head of the Department of English. The Flag hoisting was done by the Chief
Guest, Professor Shobhana N., Dr. Jenis Mary, the Vice Principal of the Institute and Mr. Sandeep Ullal, the Physical Education Director.
The patriotic songs rendition was followed by speeches from Mr.Manoj of II BSW and Ms. Nashma Khatija of III BA.
Professor Shobhana N. spoke about being patriotic and passionate in all that we do.
The celebration ended on a cheerful note with everyone greeting one another a Happy Republic Day.
Tiranga, which we unfurl on Republic Day, indicates our Freedom
Republic day celebration was held on January 26th. Chief guest Prof. Beulah Emmanuel, professor of Sociology and Social Work at the Academy of Prisoners and Correctional Administration in her address asked students to give to the country in macro level and not in micro level She told youngsters are blessed in many talents which they need to use it in a creative way.
Roshni Nilaya Celebrates Independence Day in Government Schools
The Department of English in collaboration with the Department of BSW and the Innerwheel Club of Mangalore North (a part of Rotary International) conducted competitions on the 14th of August 2017 in 6 Kannada medium government schools in Mangalore.
The flag hoisting ceremony and the prize distribution ceremony took place on the 15th of August 2017.
Students of B.A./B.S.W. conducted the competitions and Department of English contributed towards the prizes .
Awareness Programme in Commemoration of the World Breastfeeding Week
The Department of English in collaboration with the Women's Cell, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore, conducted an Awareness Programme on 9th of August 2017 to commemorate the World Breastfeeding Week.
100 UG students (both boys and girls of B.A. / BSW) attended the programme conducted by Ms. Meena, Lactation Consultant.
World Earth Day Celebration 2021
Today and Always making our Planet Greener and Healthier on this Earth Day 2021. National Service Scheme Unit of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya observed “Earth Day 2021” with the theme ‘Restore Our Earth’ on Thursday, 22nd April 2021 near College Amphitheatre.
Mrs. Veena B K, Assistant NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. Dr. Juliet C J, Principal and Dr. Jenis Mary P, Vice Principal planted a fruit Sapling and thereafter Principal addressed the gathering by focusing on this year theme based on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that could restore the world’s ecosystems. She also inspired the students who attended the programme offline as well as through the virtual platform of google meet https://meet.google.com/nqx-yzjp-bwf by taking a step towards protection of the environment and focusing on the need for conservation would only be possible by being part in this change. Staff of the college took part in the event through offline mode to make our Earth a sustainable place to live and through online mode to adopt ways for sustainable living where the NSS volunteers although in times of COVID-19 would plant a sapling in their place of stay. The programme ended with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Obanath, NSS Programme Officer.
