On Thursday, July 18, 2024, the Physical Education Department of the School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya organized an inspiring Taekwondo demonstration for students and staff. The event, held during the mentoring hour from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., took place in the college auditorium and was attended by all BA/BSW students and faculty members.

  • Prashanth Bhat, Head of the Department of Rural Development
  • Kiran Prasad, Dean of Administration & Head of the Department of Sociology
  • Manuel D'Souza, Assistant Professor, Department of English
  • Sandeep Ullal, Head of the Department of Physical Education

The session was led by Mr. Mehul Bangera, a distinguished Taekwondo instructor. Mr. Bangera began with an informative introduction to Taekwondo, highlighting its various styles practiced globally. He emphasized the multifaceted benefits of this martial art, including:

  1. Building discipline
  2. Enhancing self-defense skills
  3. Improving physical strength
  4. Promoting mental well-being

Mr. Bangera shared his personal journey in Taekwondo, emphasizing the dedication and consistency required to master this discipline. His narrative served as an inspiration to the attendees, illustrating the transformative power of commitment to a martial art.

Demonstration Highlights:

  1. Meditation techniques for mental focus
  2. Warm-up exercises to prepare the body
  3. Basic Taekwondo stances and movements
  4. Punching techniques targeting different body zones:
  • Face
  • Midsection
  • Lower abdomen

Throughout the demonstration, Mr. Bangera stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between mental and physical fitness, underlining the holistic approach of Taekwondo to personal development.

The event concluded at 12:45 p.m., leaving the audience visibly inspired and motivated. Many students expressed interest in pursuing Taekwondo training, recognizing its potential for personal growth and self-improvement.
