On the 11th of November 2023, members of the Sustainable Development Forum convened in the Seminar Hall at 3:30 pm to engage in a Forum led Thematic Presentation involving 180 PG students. The primary aim of this event was to raise awareness among the attendees about the significance of Village Vigilance Committees in the contemporary context. With the expert guidance of Professor Eveleen Bennis, Head of the Department (HOD) of the PG Department of Social Work and Assistant Professor Anuradha Shetty, Faculty Coordinator, The Sustainable Development Forum and students specializing in Community Development from the first and second years dedicated themselves in sensitizing the audience regarding the crucial role of Village Vigilance Committees in today's society.
The master of ceremonies for the program, Sister Maria Anitha, adeptly facilitated the proceedings, ensuring a seamless and organized event. The forum activity commenced with a devotional prayer song performed by the students, setting a serene tone for the gathering. Following this, Sister Sabina Subba delivered a brief yet warm welcome speech. Subsequently, Fr. Amar Rai presented an introductory segment of the program, which was complemented by an inspirational Kannada awareness song aimed at promoting understanding among the audience on building a just and equitable community.
With the capable leadership of Father Lawrence, the student coordinator of the SD Forum, the students adeptly performed a compelling skit that vividly depicted the crucial role the Village Vigilance Committee members can play in rescuing and rehabilitating children trapped in the clutches of substance abuse. Professor Eveleen Bennis, who had been instrumental in inspiring the students for this event, delivered a short summary of the pivotal functions of Village Vigilance Committee.
During the feedback session, Professor Dr. Rosa Nimmy Mathew, Head & Asst Professor, MSc Counselling commended the program and emphasized the importance of Village Vigilance Committees as a timely necessity for the creation of a secure community. The forum activity concluded with a short vote of thanks delivered by Father Libin Jose, expressing gratitude to all who had contributed to the success of this significant event.
